The function of the automotive water pump is to pressurize the coolant to ensure that it circulates in the cooling system by car cooling system parts. In layman's terms, it allows the water to continuously circulate through the radiator and engine block components to remove heat and ensure that the engine is not overheated. In the cylinder block of the car engine, there are many water channels for cooling water circulation, which are connected with the radiator (commonly known as the water tank) placed in the front of the car through water pipes to form a large water circulation system. There is a water pump driven by the fan belt to pump the hot water out of the water channel of the engine block and pump the cold water in.
There is also a thermostat next to the water pump. When the car is just started (cold car), it is not turned on, so that the cooling water does not pass through the water tank, but only circulates in the engine (commonly known as small circulation). When the temperature of the engine reaches 80 degrees or more When it is turned on, it is turned on, the hot water in the engine is pumped into the water tank, and the cold wind blows through the water tank when the car is moving forward, taking away the heat. This is roughly how it works. The auto electric water pump is used to drive the coolant circulation. The engine cools down only when the coolant circulates. The function of the water pump is to pressurize the coolant flowing through the radiator and send it into the water jacket of the cylinder to facilitate the flow of cooling water. The principle is to use the centrifugal force generated by the impeller to pressurize the water and send it out.
During the use of the car, it is inevitable that there will be some failures, and the car water pump is one of them. So what are the maintenance methods for the water pump?
After the automotive water pump is taken out, it can be disassembled in sequence. After disassembly, the parts should be cleaned, and then checked one by one to see if there are any defects such as cracks, damage and wear. If there are serious defects, they should be replaced. If the water seal is worn and grooved, it can be smoothed with emery cloth. If it is excessively worn, it should be replaced; if the water seal seat has rough scratches, it can be repaired with a flat reamer or on a lathe. New water seal components should be replaced during overhaul. Welding repairs are allowed when the pump body has the following damages, but the length is within 30mm, and the cracks that do not extend to the bearing seat hole; the flange jointed with the cylinder head has a broken part; the oil seal seat hole is damaged.
The bending of the car water pump shaft must not exceed 0.05mm, otherwise it should be replaced. If the impeller blades are damaged, they need to be replaced in time. Check whether the bearing of the automotive water pump rotates flexibly or makes abnormal noise. If there is a problem with the bearing, it should be replaced. If the bore diameter of the water pump shaft is seriously worn, it should be replaced or the insert should be repaired.
